What is Bangla QR?

Bangla QR is Bangladesh’s national QR standard for retail payments. Bangladesh Bank introduced it through official guidelines on 6 January 2021 and ran a pilot in 2023. It is built on the international EMVCo Merchant Presented QR Code Specification. Its purpose is to replace the country’s fragmented, closed loop systems with a single QR point of sale that accepts payment across different financial institutions.

One QR | More Ways to Pay

Give your customers the freedom to pay using their preferred supported banking or payment application.

1. Scan

Customers simply scan the merchant's Bangla QR.

2. Enter

They enter the transaction amount and verify the payment.

3. Pay

The payment is securely processed through the customer's supported payment app.

4. Receive

The merchant receives the payment into the designated account according to the applicable settlement arrangement.

Designed for a Cashless Bangladesh

Under the national guideline, a merchant can accept retail payment from any supported app. As of FY2025 the network covers 42 to 46 plus scheduled banks, seven Mobile Financial Service (MFS) providers such as bKash, Nagad and Rocket, and several Payment Service Providers (PSPs) and Payment System Operators (PSOs), all taking part under Bangladesh Bank's National Payment Switch Bangladesh (NPSB).

Yes. Bangla QR is interoperable by design, so a customer on any participating bank app, MFS app such as bKash, Nagad or Rocket, or fintech app can scan the same Zaytoon Bangla QR code and pay. This removes the old closed loop limit, where a customer of one provider could only pay merchants signed up with that same provider.

No. Bangla QR exists precisely to replace the clutter of proprietary QR stickers with one unified code. A Zaytoon merchant needs a single Bangla QR display to accept payment from every participating bank, MFS and PSP. Bangladesh Bank has made the single QR rule compulsory at all merchant points from 1 July 2026, and breaches carry penalties under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act 2024.

Yes. Every Bangla QR payment needs an OTP or PIN before money moves, and the system is built on the international EMVCo Merchant Presented QR Code Specification that Bangladesh Bank adopted to standardise security and interoperability. Because the money comes straight from the customer's bank account or MFS wallet, there is no card to swipe, which cuts the risk of card cloning, PIN theft and cash handling losses.

Compliance Note: Customers should check the merchant name and the amount before confirming, never share a PIN, OTP or app login, and report any unauthorised transaction to their provider straight away. Merchants should confirm the payment on their own side before handing over goods or services.

Register as a merchant, complete KYC verification with your trade licence, NID, TIN and bank details, link your bank account, then activate the Merchant QR through the Zaytoon platform or the ZaytoonAgent mobile app. Once approved, we issue the QR sticker, physical or digital, for display at your point of sale.
